Molly's mom, Trina, works at my school as the Marketing teacher. I sat down beside Trina the first day of school. She said hello and asked me out to lunch with her that day. We figured out that our girls were the exact same age. They ended up in the same kindergarten class. We have all turned out to be good friends. I am very thankful for them. They have helped with the transition to a new place. Molly and Bethany had their birthday party together this year at Skateworld. These are a couple of pictures from the party.

Instant Friends, Just add a boring Faculty Senate Meeting.
Daisy Scouts
Bethany is a Daisy Scout this year. Daisies is like Brownies only with kindergarten and first grade girls. Molly and Bethany joined Daisies at the same time. This is a picture of Molly and Bethany at Dairy Queen in Bridgeport. Neither Molly or Bethany wanted to go to Daisies that night, so I bribed them with a trip to Dairy Queen for icecream. Molly came home from school with us that evening, and then we went to the meeting. It turned out that they both had a really good time at the meeting. They played a game called "Upset the fruit basket" and sang some songs. They colored some postcards to give to people who they wanted to thank for helping people.

Cheerios

This is Bridgeport High School. The upstairs windows on the left close to the flagpole belong to my room. My room is fairly small with one sink. It is not the best situation for teaching science. I do not have any counter space. I have eight lab desks for the kids to work on. It is okay. I didn't realize how very blessed with stuff and space I was at Buffalo High School. Currently, I am teaching CATS 10, Earth Science, and Physical Science. My CATS 10 class is a special education inclusion class. It has four regular kids and ten special education students. Today, I was teaching about the cell membrane and talking about the phospholipid bilayer. I was telling them it was made of a phospholipid that had a phosphate group and a fatty acid tail. Then the membrane also has channel proteins, which move things in and out of the cell. And the last thing I was going to teach them about the structure of the membrane was that our cells have cholestrol in them which increases the flexibility of the membrane. I asked, "What do you know about chlolestrol?" A sweet girl raised her hand and said, "It is bad for you if it is to high, and can hurt your heart, and that's why we have cheerios." I loved it. It made me smile for awhile. Then I went on with how the phospholipid bilayer is both polar and nonpolar. And then we did a lab. It was a good class. Don't forget to eat your cheerios. :)

Cows, Cats, Tables, and Corpses

All fall and winter I've been trying to take a yoga class. The first class I signed up for the teacher moved before the class started, and it was canceled. I then joined the YMCA, but the class was full. I finally got into the class this session. Last night was my first class. The instructor is an ancient elf of a woman with short cropped silver hair. I can barely hear her when she says the poses she is so relaxed. The class was good. My favorite pose is corpse. By the end of a yoga practice, I love sinking into the floor. Cat and Cow always crack me up. I want to moo and meow when I do it. The ancient elf wouldn't think it was funny though. My class is going to be on Mondays and Wednesday evenings. I am glad to finally get some exercise. The most I've had in weeks was taking a shower!

Bethany and Lily

We recently had family pictures taken. I especially like this one of Lily and Bethany. They have become really good pals. Lily's attitude toward Bethany changed when she realized Bethany was a source of food. Bethany likes to give out treats. Bethany hides the treat, and yells hunt for it. Lily then sniffs around the house until she finds it. Now they sleep together at night. One night I found them spooning. It was really cute. They are about the same size when Lily is stretched out.

Valentine's Day Weekend
This weekend we had a Grand Celebration in Winfield. We celebrated the birthday's of Grandma, Grandpa, and Bethany. We also celebrated Valentine's Day together. Great Aunt Jean traveled with Bethany and I down for the weekend. We had an absolutely super time.
Bethany got some solar lights that twinkle different colors in the shapes of humming birds, butterflies, and dragon flies. We are greatly looking forward to putting them in our Guinea Pig Garden this spring.
Last evening, Bethany shared a poem with me. I don't know where she heard it, or if she made it up herself, but I thought it very sweet.
Mommy's Poem
Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
There's nothing I love,
More than you.

Signs of Spring!
We have had a really hard winter. Snow has been almost continuous since it seems like Halloween. Bethany and I went on a winter walk in the woods behind our house. We were talking about things around us. She said, "Mommy spring is coming." I said, "How do you know?" She said, " Just look at that fine piece of grass sticking out of the snow." I hope I remember this conversation forever. It is a fine memory.
